October 27 – Assembly District 78 Endorsement Meeting

At our meeting on Sunday, Octoberer 27, 2019, Point Loma & Ocean Beach Dems will consider endorsing a candidate for Assembly District 78. This district includes all of Point Loma and Ocean Beach and is currently held by Todd Gloria. Read more about the demographics of the 78th here. This is an opportunity for us to ask questions and hear from each of the Democratic candidates during a moderated forum. Please read up on the candidates and bring your questions. Mar 18 – Do Citizens Get Hurt More in Soccer or Football?

This month’s meeting is a week earlier than usual to accommodate the inclusion of the Point Loma Assembly in the San Diego Architectural Foundation Open House on March 24-25. Joe LaCava will present arguments in opposition to the SoccerCity Initiative scheduled for the City of San Diego November 2018 ballot. The citizen’s initiative proposes a sale/lease to private investors and redevelopment of city-owned land including the Qualcomm Stadium and the former Charger Training System. Mr. LaCava is a Democratic Party activist and prominent advocate of community participation in the city’s planning process. He graduated from San Diego State University and is owner of LaCava Consulting. He is the former chair of the San Diego Community Planners Committee, the umbrella organization to the city’s 42 community planning groups, and was briefly a candidate for San Diego City Council in 2016. He currently serves on the eBoards for the Democrats for Environmental Action and Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 (C-3). Elizabeth Warren at Netroots Nation Describes the Soul of Today’s Democratic Party.

Netroots Nation Conference, Day 3, Senator Elizabeth Warren Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) spoke at the annual conference of Netroots Nation in Atlanta. She talked about many priorities of the Democratic Party including reproductive rights, health care, and immigration while criticizing the agenda of Republicans and the Trump administration. She also cautioned about calls to move her party closer to the center. The annual conference was an “annual gathering for progressives” attended by online organizers and grassroots activists.
