Climate Action Fast

Climate Action Fast

San Diegans concerned about Climate Change will conduct a two-day fast at the Federal Building from 6 p.m., Friday,  August 18th until 6 a.m., Monday,  August 20th.  A public rally at 6 p.m. Friday will kick off the event. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the seriousness of the Climate Crisis and to demonstrate support for The Climate Mobilization.

The Climate Mobilization is a grassroots movement out of New York City calling for a World War-II scale national mobilization to transition the U.S. off of fossil fuels and onto Wind, Water and Solar Renewable Energy.  The construction of a new energy system for America has been researched and computer modeled by Engineering Professor Mark Jacobson and his colleagues at Stanford University. Jacobson has partnered with actor Mark Ruffalo in the Solutions Project, dedicated to 100% renewable energy in America.

“We know that a new energy system is technologically possible, what is lacking is the political will,” said retired Superior Court Judge Robert C. Coates, chairman of the San Diego Climate Mobilization Coalition, a chapter of the New York organization and a sponsor of the fast.

“Our goal is to get millions of people peacefully demonstrating  throughout the U.S. until Congress is willing to go for a new energy system,” said Nancy Casady, one of the organizers.  “100% renewable is 100%  possible,” Casady said.

Jim Evans’ Letters

Jim Evans’ Letters

Clean, affordable water should not be a partisan issue.

Jim Evans, inspired by Daily Kos Briefing, writes,
“It’s my belief that the answer is not to privatize the infrastructure process, but to do it with public works govt. departments and pay for it by taxing those who can afford to pay for the rehab with a progressive tax formula, like we used to do.

As Professor Chalmers Johnson, wrote, ‘Great nations decline when their spending to maintain their empire exceeds their spending to maintain what gave them the ability to build their empire, namely their homefront infrastructure, especially their ability to educate their youth.’

The U.S. has been at this point since “W,” Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and others of their ilk, in 2003 started the U.S. on our current path to “Shock” and “Aw.” Of course, we were already on the path in 2003, but that administration gave it a huge butt kick with a giant kick in the rear.

The “Shock” is that our race to self-destruction hasn’t stopped, and the “Aw” is that we still have the time, and the ability to reverse it. The question is can we find the will to reverse it? Even so, it’s not too late.

With Continuing Hope and Optimism, I sign this, Jim ”

Protect our Federal Land
Jim Evans writes, “Trump wants to rescind the 1906 Antiquities Act. He wants oil and coal companies to drill and mine on land set aside under this Act for us and our ancestors. Places like Monument Valley, and Escalante, and Bears Ears.

Trump calls our National Monuments a disgrace, and a grand theft of land from the American People. He says the land should really belong to Exxon, and Shell.

Teddy Roosevelt said that if we didn’t set aside land, it would be gone, and then you couldn’t get it back. TR must be sickened. I know I am.

I just gave some money to the Wilderness Society. They’re a good group. Please help them if you can.

Thanks, Jim”

Prevent Gun Violence

Tell your representative “California has the strongest gun laws in the country – giving us one of the lowest rates of gun death. I don’t want the weak gun laws from other state forced on California putting my family at risk of being shot – which would happen under HR 38. Vote NO on HR 38.”  http://www.bradycampaignsd.org
